Which boots are right for you?

So – where to start with researching the right pair of boots for you?

First, establish your budget. Our range of boots start at around the $200 mark up to around $800. Do you get more for a higher budget? In short, yes. The extra cost will gain you a higher quality material, detail with craftsmanship and durability. So the more you are able to spend, the better. If you are looking at the upper end of budget, we recommend looking at the CRISPI® range of boots. Made in Italy, Crispi started out small — handcrafting their boots in a small factory located in Veneto at the foot hills of the nearby Alps, which was the ideal place to produce mountain footwear.

They have a good combination of talent, tradition, quality, and experience which has seen this family-run business evolve to now distributing their products to over 54 countries. When it comes to footwear, the words “Italian made” have always stood for ‘the best quality you can buy’ — a reputation hard-earned over many decades.

Our top sellers would be the Crispi Titan for a high-top boot option and the Crispi Nevada for a mid-cut boot; but we recommend checking the product descriptions to confirm the fit works best for your fit type i.e. wide or narrow foot.

Lower to Mid Price Points

Our boots at the lower price points will still absolutely do the job well. We recommend looking at the comparisons between Hunters Element and Grisport for an entry level hunting boot. The Hunters Element Maverick Boots and Lima Boots tend to be lighter in weight than the Grisport Hiker.

In the middle of the road for price point, we suggest looking at the Grisport Kaikoura and Urewera. These options are full leather, waterproof and made in Italy so the quality is top notch.

Hamills Staff Picks!

Saran – wears the Crispi Titan. Ideal for bush stalking as they are lightweight and flexible. Fully waterproof, they are great for river crossings and the winter months, particularly as it always seems to rain on his days off! Saran likes the extra support with the high-cut fit.

Amy – wears the Grisport Zara for a normal foot fit and a good budget for someone who only heads in the bush once every couple of months.

Rhys – wears the Crispi Titan, for the central North Island landscape and comfort for day in/day out wearing.

Jaxon – wears the Crispi Dakota for a wider foot and a variety of terrain – both North and South Island.
